pecialty Lenses
A task-specific lens provides you with the best vision according to your needs. We match the lens to fit your job, hobby or other recreational use.
Computer
Do you spend a lot of time on a computer? These lenses are specifically designed to combat C.V.S. (computer vision syndrome), a leading cause of blurred vision and fatigue at work. Designed with appropriate high-contrast treatments for maximum clarity.
High Contrast
In order to maximize your vision, treatments for high contrast are used. All eyeglass wearers can benefit from the combination of increased clarity, and reduced eye fatigue that this treatment provides. An added bonus is the increased cosmetics, since the wearer's eyes are clearly visible through the lens surface.
Stay Clean
Don't settle for uncoated lenses just because of cleaning concerns. New advances in lens treatments mean that some lenses actively repel dust, dirt, fog and water so you can focus on what's important.
Sports and Safety
Protect your most valuable assets. Many eye injuries occur due to lack of proper eyewear. Consider impact resistant eyewear for all sports and safety activities. Some lenses are even designed to enhance performance. Ask us for details.
Lens Options / Types of Lenses
Single Vision
This might best be called "fixed vision" because it is able to fix one aspect of your vision at a time. For younger wearers, this is the most common lens prescribed. If you are in the later half of life, your single vision lenses will only fix your vision at distance or up close, leaving the other vision ranges blurry.
Progressives
Not all progressive lenses are created equal. Each design offers various benefits and fits different frame designs. Older progressives are based on an hourglass design, fit larger frames and have more obvious blur zones. New technology has allowed for designs that fit smaller frames and have less noticeable blur at the edges. Some clients opt for custom made, free-form lenses with digital enhancement which provide the most natural vision in all frame styles. Ask your consultant for more information.
Aspheric
Reduce lens thickness and improve your vision with aspheric lenses. These designs smooth and flatten your lenses to improve clarity across the entire viewing area. Enjoy better peripheral vision, more natural eye appearance through the lens, and a better fit in modern frame styles.
Thin and Light
Thinner, lighter lenses enhance lens appearance and improve vision. The crucial point when choosing a thinner (or high index) lens is what you expect the final product to look like. There is a wide range of thin materials and they vary in thickness reduction from 15-60%. Our clinic carries the full range of high index products and we can help you select the right one.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is associated with the development of cataracts, yellowing of the eyes and can damage the retina. UV can even contribute to ocular tumours.
Sun Lenses should always be UV blocking. Our lenses are 100% protected from a broad spectrum of UV.
Polarized
Get the best contrast in bright light with
polarized lenses. They eliminate reflections off of shiny surfaces like roads, water, snow and
buildings, leaving you with everything you need and nothing you don't. Particularly important for boaters, golfers, drivers and fishing enthusiasts.
Tinted
Lens tints vary from light to very dark, and come in an assortment of colour options. The tints for sun lenses are usually medium to dark and can be solid throughout the whole lens, or gradient – darker on top fading to lighter, or clear, at the bottom of the lens.
Mirrored Lenses
The reflective surface from a mirrored coating not only keeps the eye virtually invisible to viewers, it also protects the wearer from glare and heat. Mirrors are available in a variety of colours to enhance tints and visual performance.
Transitions
Move easily from inside to the outdoors with a self-adjusting transition lens. This product is completely clear indoors, but quickly transforms into a darker lens when it senses UV light outside. Our newest generation lenses have rapid colour change and full UV protection. Excellent for people who like convenience and comfort, or who are sensitive to light.
Anti-reflection treatments
New prescription lenses are coated with special scratch-resistant and anti-reflection coatings. These superior coatings are the finest "state-of-the-art" in lens coatings. They eliminate the unpleasant reflection of surrounding light such as neon lights, computer screens or car headlights and let the natural beauty of your eyes shine through. As importantly, they also allow more available light to pro-perly focus through the lens into your eye. In order for anti-reflection coatings to look their best, specifically designed cleaners should be used. We recommend using the cleaner and the lens cloth provided as samples.
It is important that the lenses are not exposed to high temperature, or rapid temperature changes. Do not leave your eyewear on the dash of the car, or wear your eyewear in the sauna or hot tub. Do not wear your eyewear while
using hair spray or other aerosols, which may damage the coatings.
